Stefan is cited in legal directories as a leader in his field. He specialises in all aspects of employment law, with particular experience of: unfair and wrongful dismissal; breach of trust and confidence cases; complex discrimination claims; equal pay claims; transfer of undertakings; restrictive covenants and protection of confidential information; pension rights.
 
Stefan appears in tribunals (at first instance and on appeal) and in the civil courts, acting on behalf of major employers, unions and employees. Since his appointment as junior counsel to the Crown, he has acted regularly on behalf of a various government departments. He is known for his ability to handle complex cases, and is increasingly instructed in group and multiple litigation. His clients range from high profile sports personalities to established plcs, and his commercial litigation knowledge provides an added dimension when dealing with cases involving company/director/shareholder issues.   • Cummins v Bromley & others (2006) – successful proceedings in the High Court between the ex-managers of The Stone Roses.
  • Dr V v Pennine Acute NHS Trust (2006) – successful claim for a consultant doctor in high value race discrimination proceedings.
  • Geddes Window Systems Ltd v Taylor (2006) – High Court injunctive proceedings and mediation regarding the misuse of confi dential information.
  • Nijhar v University of Ulster (2005) – religious and political discrimination proceedings in the Fair Employment Tribunal in Belfast.
  • Sloane & 20 others v TVR Engineering Ltd (2005) – multiple redundancy litigation.
  • Thompson v Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council (2005) – successful claim for unfair dismissal in sensitive proceedings attracting substantial press coverage, achieving the maximum compensatory award.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Stefan conducts seminars and lectures for specialist employment lawyers. He is also qualified to teach advocacy for the National Institute of Trial Advocacy.
