Recorder (2009)
The vast majority of Mr MacAdam’s practice involves serious, complex and paper heavy cases. Instructions are regularly received from private practice solicitors in respect of fraud and regulatory breach matters, prosecutions commenced by the SFO, DTI, CPS, ARA and Trading Standards.
Many cases have involved tens of thousands of pages of evidence concerning financial or medical documentation. A recent SFO case alleged defrauding international commercial banks of in excess of £90 million comprised
of approximately 30,000 pages of mostly financial matters. An ongoing case concerns health and safety matters going back many years and it is likely to involve a similar volume of paperwork of a medical nature. Mr MacAdam
is very experienced in identifying the issues in such cases and developing the case accordingly. He is extremely proficient at cross-examining both medical and financial expert witnesses.
Mr MacAdam almost invariably defends.
Mr MacAdam regularly represents clients before the Crown Court, High Court and Court of Appeal in criminal matters.
On many occasions he has been instructed as leading Counsel in matters lasting from a fortnight to 4 months +.
Many of Mr MacAdam’s cases have attracted publicity on a national level, having been instructed by the Police Federation, Prison Offi cers Association, Th e Post Offi ce, The Pharmacists Society, various insurance companies, Trades Unions and Healthcare providers on numerous occasions.
Mr MacAdam accepts work in all regulatory matters:-
- He has particular experience representing police officers on behalf of the Police Federation before their Disciplinary Tribunals, the Criminal Court and Coroners’ Inquests.
- He is regularly instructed by the General Medical Council to conduct IOP, FTP and review cases.
- He has appeared before the Privy Council for the Appellant in respect of an appeal from the Disciplinary Committee of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons.
Mr MacAdam is regularly requested to draft /respond to heads of charge, skeleton arguments and statements of case. All such matters are turned around quickly and efficiently.
Mr MacAdam is fully IT proficient and utilises the most up to date technology, in particular Case-Map, which provides for greater effi ciency in searching large amounts of documentation. Chambers has the facility to scan briefs to CD-ROM. He is literate in both Word and Excel and utilises an LSC approved time-recording system. He frequently accepts instructions on disk or by e-mail via chambers at jmacadam@9stjohnstreet.co.uk.
