Christoper Kennedy QC is head of the 9 St John Street Personal Injury & Clinical Negligence Group and leads all discussions relating to Personal Injury work, including the implementation of Conditional Fees and Chambers continuing education on the Civil Procedures Rules and the Human Rights Act.
Christopher Kennedy has very wide experience of personal injury litigation including all types of employer’s liability, public liability, serious road traffic accident and industrial disease cases.
His practice includes a significant proportion of High Court work and he is used to conducting cases with a substantial value. He has considerable experience in multi-party actions for both Claimants and Defendants.
Christopher has particular expertise in cases involving psychogenic pain and in the conduct of defence work in potentially fraudulent claims. He receives instructions from a number of major insurers in these sensitive fields. Christopher recently and successfully represented two major insurers in the first contested action to recover damages from those behind a fraud ring.
His industrial disease experience includes asbestos related cases, cases involving exposure to fumes, work related upper limb disorders and occupational cancer.
His clinical negligence practice includes litigating a wide variety of issues including the management of psychiatric and other vulnerable patients, birth related defects, administration of drugs and informed consent. He is skilled at providing guidance on expert evidence in such cases.
Christopher has developed an expertise in environmental law having represented both the prosecution and defence in relevant criminal litigation and through his involvement in multi-party actions arising out of emissions of pollution.
Having had a general common law practice including criminal work for the first five years after he was called, Christopher’s criminal work has since been restricted to the representation of local authorities in their enforcement work and to appearing for Defendants in health and safety and environmental prosecutions.
