Mr Breen practises exclusively in employment law and has very wide experience of Tribunal work including unfair dismissal and breach of contract applications, group redundancy applications and transfer of undertakings. He is a "Leader in the Field" in Chambers & Partners' Guide to the Legal Profession who describe him as "excellent". The Legal 500 Directory report that Mr Breen is "pro-active" and "noted for his tribunal work and popular amongst clients".
He has extensive experience of advising/drafting work and advocacy. He regularly appears in the Employment Tribunal, the Employment Appeal Tribunal and the High Court and is highly regarded amongst the Judiciary and Chairmen of Employment Tribunals.
He has a particular interest in disability discrimination, maternity rights and the Working Time Regulations. His specialist interest led to him gaining a Masters Degree from Queensland University in Australia where he completed a thesis on Civil Rights from a European perspective.
He has acted for a variety of public institutions including various National Health Trust Hospitals throughout the country and numerous Local Authorities. He has conducted many multi-party actions involving equal pay cases and has handled cases with as many as 5,000 employees involving issues on the Transfer of Undertakings Regulations and the Working Time Regulations.
He has also acted for and against the Chief Constable of various constabularies in very serious sex discrimination and race discrimination cases. He is not averse to conducting these cases unassisted by Leading Counsel and frequently appears against eminent Leading Counsel in the Employment Law field on these and other cases. He is approved by the Commission for Racial Equality and the Equal Opportunities Commission to act in these discrimination cases. In addition he acted for numerous applicants in the Armed Forces pregnancy dismissal litigation conducted in Industrial Tribunals across the United Kingdom in 1994 and 1995.
He is a frequent speaker on employment law and is highly committed to providing the best possible service for his clients whilst still maintaining a personal and professional approach.
