Since becoming the youngest qualified barrister in England, Carlo Breen has pursued and gained an excellent reputation for his personal injury and industrial disease work. His practice involves a mix of both traditional and progressive areas of personal injury specialism.
Carlo has wide experience of factory accidents, road traffic accidents, brain damage cases and catastrophic injury claims. He also has wide experience in asbestos and RSI disease work.
He also advises and acts in single-party and multi-party clinical negligence actions.
He has conducted personal injury related Judicial Review applications, particularly in relation to the Criminal Injuries Compensation Board. He has on several occasions been junior counsel in high profile cases determining Local Authorities’ duties in relation to the provision of education for disabled children.
Civil Liberties and Human Rights
He has been junior Counsel in a multi-party action arising from the Strangeways Prison Riots. Civil Liberties is a subject of particular interest, particularly with the advent of the Human Rights Act. Carlo continues to further this aspect of his practice and to play a part in pushing the boundaries of the legislation in the North West.
Carlo also enjoys experience of conducting more unusual civil rights claims, including the unlawful restraint of inmates during childbirth, and issues arising out of misfeasance of public office.
